In today’s world, being an independent artist comes with many challenges. Technology has made it possible for anyone to create art and get exposure for it—which is truly wonderful. But it’s also made it harder to make a sustainable living. Music can be streamed for nothing these days, leaving most musicians with few ways to earn back the money that we invest in writing, recording, mixing, and mastering our music.

At certain times in history, artists were supported by patrons, who empowered them to share their craft. Devotional singers and spiritual teachers were also supported by their communities because their work was considered valuable. But today, many of these structures have disappeared.

I believe that spiritual offerings should be available to everyone equally. In that spirit, my events are always offered on a sliding scale, and no one is ever turned away. I also give my private sessions on a donation basis, and I share my music widely on platforms where people can enjoy it for free. I can’t imagine doing things any other way.
